Jalsa Chandra , a Nritya Pravin , Gold Medalist, is an exponent of Bharatnatayam and Kathak. Having learnt the said dance forms from renowned personalities like Dr. Guru Smt. Thankamani Kutty and Sm. Kanan Sen . She is not only a performer ,she is a choreographer and a teacher spreading the classical tradition with the touch of her creativity amongst her disciples.
Jalsa Chandra , has been empanelled with the Ministry of Culture , Festivals of India and Abroad , Solo and Group. She is an empaneled artist of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre, the West Bengal State Music Academy and Doordarshan Kolkata.
She learns Carnatic vocal and mridangam under the guidance of Sri Ranganathan Srinivasan. She is also learning Hindusthani Classical vocal. Jalsa is associated with Natya Sastra scholar Shri Piyal Bhattacharya,learning Marga Natya under him.
Jalsa is a teacher , performer of Kalamandalam Calcutta and a teacher of Modern High School.
Apart from conducting workshops in Nehru Children’s Museum , and in orphanages like Refuge and Mother’s Heart , she has also assisted her gurus in such work in India and Abroad.
She has directed and choreographed the senior school concert of Loreto Day School,Bowbazar,2015,and the 150 years celebration of Balmer Lawrie Pvt Ltd 2016.
Jalsa has received acclaimations from Padma Vibhushan Pandit Birju Maharaj Ji and Guru Rajendra Gangani Ji.
Nritya Kalangan , Jalsa’s own institution is a unique hub which promotes Indian Classical Dances , with a difference. The performances of the troupe showcase a blend of modern as well as the traditional culture of India. The main idea behind the choreographies is to make the classical forms appreciable and popular among the mass.
Ms. Jalsa Chandra is associated with an orphanage “Refuge” and being an animal lover, the funds if raised from the shows help her in the noble cause.
